Targeting artists at pivotal stages in their professional careers, the Walthall Artist Fellowship is accepting applications for the 2018-2019 year. Specifically, by providing artists with the necessary resources, community-base, and networks, the Fellowship empowers selected artists to significantly advance and define their careers. Artists of a variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply. Including, but not limited to drawing, painting, media artists, performance artists, and writers. The application is competitive; attendance at all events is mandatory. Please consider this commitment when applying. The schedule of events is listed below.
Participation in the Walthall Fellowship includes the following:
Eight monthly symposia with Atlanta’s leading arts professionals. Covered topics include understanding contracts and intellectual property, working with institutions, marketing your work, and building a portfolio. Dates include July 14th, August 11th, September 15th, October 13th, November 10th, December 15th, January 12th, and February 16th.
Eight monthly roundtables in which Fellows, as a cohort, lead a discussion about critical issues to their practice. Dates include July 18th, August 15th, September 19th, October 17th, November 14th, December 19th, January 16th, and February 20th.
Individualized one-to-one informal mentorships for each Fellow.
A 4-day residency on Ossabaw Island in March 2019.
A group exhibition featuring all twelve Fellows--tentatively held in July 2019.
Applicants must be able to attend 100% of the program in order to be selected.
The Walthall Artist Fellowship is open to artists of a variety of disciplines. Artists who will be enrolled in BFA or MFA programs or intending to apply to a BFA or MFA program at any point during the program are not eligible.
